Letters to art dealers, 1897-1903.

The collection comprises eleven letters, half of them dated between 1897 and 1903. Most of the undated ones are probably close to the same period. Almost all were sent to the Paris dealers Arnold et Tripp, where Ten Cate hoped to display and sell his works. Most letters include titles of works, and sometimes the price. All have his home address under the signature: rue de Malte 65.

The Dutch painter Siebe Johannes Ten Cate was born in Friesland, Netherlands. He studied at the academy in Antwerp, then made study trips in Europe, North America, and Egypt. He worked in Paris, and participated in various exhibitions there, and also in Vienna, Munich, and Venice. He painted mostly in gouache, watercolor, and pastel.
